Another cold front was coming through and so we decided to take the very few opportunities left to take another walk through the many trails we have here. This one is called Katy Trail and we chose it because it's very close to home.
The Katy Trail State Park is a recreation rail trail that runs 225 miles (362 km) in the right-of-way of the former Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad. The nickname "Katy" comes from the phonetic pronunciation of 'KT' in the railroad's abbreviated name, MKT. The trail, widely known as the Katy Trail is a Missouri state park and one of the longest Rails-to-Trails trails in the United States. Sections of the Katy are part of the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail and the American Discovery Trail. Most of the trail follows the northern bank of the Missouri River. The trail is open for use by hikers, joggers, and cyclists year-round, from sunrise to sunset. The trail is made up of "limestone pug" creating a hard flat surface.

We collected walnuts and locust pods. Couldn't find any acorns. The squirrels got them before we could. Good for them though...... Then we collected some orange-red leaves.
Brought them home, cleaned those that needed cleaning and placed them on our dining table to increase the Fall Welcome. :-)
No spring nor summer beauty hath such grace as I have seen in one autumnal face
Autumn quote by John Donne
The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop away from you like the leaves of Autumn.
Fall poem by John Muir

Fall is my favorite time of year and here in Portland it is gorgeous. Enjoy those last few days of sun. Love your colors. The trees make it look tropical. :)
Thanks. Missouri is blessed with a great variety of trees, shrubs and vines and we may enjoy a fall color that lasts to six weeks. However, I must add that this year's fall display is not as beautiful as it has been in the past. The colors faded fast and the leaves are beginning to drop from the trees. Some just turned yellow/brown and dropped. :-(
