Lincoln Logs Seriation and Sequencing Activity and Eric Carle inspired collage

ART

Eric Carle inspired collage. We've been reading books (as stated in past posts) illustrated by him and decided to make prints in some weeks past. We collected the prints and today used them as parts of this rooster collage. The individual prints and how they were done are in past posts. You can find them labeled under ART. I drew the parts on the prints and E cut some of them. We put the pieces together without gluing first to get an idea on how E would like it to look. Then he glued them on. Used black marker to dot for eye and I taught E how the legs are drawn and he did it.

MATH

E woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. Did not want to do anything until I mentioned playing Lincoln Logs with him. I played with him for awhile and then left him to build on his own. After he was done, I asked if we could play 'making fences' with the logs and he agreed! :-) Hence the following which can be done with popsicle sticks or twist ties or anything straight:

I did the ones on top and he did the ones on the bottom. Endless possibilities with patterning here and can be extended as long as your child wants to. Promotes key reasoning skills, cognitive skills and early abstract thought. Actually, you could also use a variation of buttons, candies, etc. and be creative!
