Handcrafted With Love

This is a piece of batik art done on silk some years ago on vacation in Club Med Cherating http://tinyurl.com/c6q95z and http://tinyurl.com/aoj26f . The symbol on the pink/grey fish gives it away.

Inspired by a crafty past, I decided to revive my old love for crafting recently. These eggs are called washi eggs covered in special chiyogami paper and then glazed over with clear varnish. (In the pics below, the 'greyish' egg hasn't received its coat of varnish yet.) (These wonderfully decorative patterns on paper, known as Chiyogami or Yuzen, are silkscreened onto machinemade sheets of mixed kozo (fibers from the bark of the mulberry tree). Originally, Chiyogami designs were developed in the Edo period (1603-1867) as woodblock prints. They were based on the bright kimono textiles, which the papermakers from the countryside saw on the fashionable wealthier ladies in the larger cities, especially in Kyoto.)

Love the colours on this batik - so beautifully bright, even after this time. And the eggs too are great: hope you are planning to tell us more about them!
