Walking - any kind - is an adventure for my preschooler

Big Little E working with the knobless cylinders. He's done!

Working on a 36 piece puzzle. Just started....

Almost there.....

Yahoo!!! He's done!

He's helping me pick tomatoes

Seed deed - sunflower behind him is the one he planted.

Leaf rubbing collage by Big Little E

Big Little E investigating a leaf

He drew outlines around these leaves with my help. We matched them as well.

Here are the outlines.

I enjoy framing Big Little E's artwork. This is one done with watercolor, blowing with straw and manually moving the paper so the water droplets will roll randomly. Reminds me of batik art.

His handprint art.

This one is done with toothbrush. Dip in watercolor and rub finger against top of brush to spray the color randomly.

This is our play/learning room. We head here every morn. for the start of our lesson.

You can see the Geog. Math and Reading sections of the room here. A train table for breaks.

The Art and part of the Reading section of our room.

We started our lessons today by looking for the sun - direction of the Earth - Geography. Then we went on to explore our yard......Big Little E will count the trees, gently touch the leaves, sometimes smell them or simply just look at them. Ever since he was a bitty baby, we would go outside and point out different flowers, plants and make it a special experience. There's really so much you can do outside. Besides inspecting the intricate details of leaves, etc. and naming parts which we did today, I think we will bring along a ruler or tape measure and play a game of sizes - largest, widest, etc.

Big Little E planted 3 sunflower seeds a few months ago and now it sits in our yard among the coneflowers. He is so proud of his seed deed and I am always awed by the transformation.

We picked some leaves today and Big Little E drew outlines of them - great way to note variety.

We learned the apex, midrib, bone, stem and veins. Then he did some leaf rubbings, a leaf rubbing collage and leaf prints. He loved these magical experiences as I recall I did when I was a young one. Truly a blessed and fun experience getting to 'repeat' these again!

Some other things he did today was to complete a 36 piece puzzle and worked with the knobless cylinders - called them his cake!

He is napping now.......what bliss it must be to be able to rest. I can't....am a confessed workaholic - there's just so much to do all the time. Anyways, for me, the reward lies in getting things accomplished and ready for a new start daily. So, I shan't be complaining.

Yesterday we read:

The Popcorn Book - Tomie de Paola

An Alphabet of Dinosaurs - Peter Dodson

Mouse Went Out to Get a Snack - Lyn Rossiter McFarland

No More Cookies - Paeony Lewis

Jumpy Jack & Googily - Meg Rosoff

Jamberry - Bruce Degen

Four Famished Foxes and Fosdyke - Pamela Duncan Edwards

Where's My Mom - Julia Donaldson

We'll surely be reading these over and over again till next week when we get a new set.
