A half a day in the life of Big Little E

We usually try to start our learning part of the day at 8:30 a.m. which means that he's up much earlier mostly due to the reason that his older brothers are up and getting ready for school. He is not one to stay in bed when everyone else is up and about no matter how silent they try to be. His early rising helps because we can get him 'awake' and dressed and cleaned for the day and sometimes even breakfast.
In no particular order are some of the activities he does for a total of 3 hours in a day. Session progresses uninterrupted from 8:30 - 11:30 a.m.

Work with oval shape from the metal inset - preparation for writing. Although he's begun writing a little now, we keep up with the metal insets work as usual to provide him with continuation of better skills in writing. It's also fun and beautiful work. When he's done with his pages of work with the metal insets, we staple them together and turn it into a to be cherished little book. It is recommended that you use a wallpaper as cover and construction paper for the backing. That would make it all the more special! We just staple the pages together as ds is very excited and has no patience for wallpaper, etc. Once done, he wants them stapled (he has to do it) immediately. That's the much anticipated climax for him.

He's punching holes with a push pin along the outline of the shape. Metal insets were used to draw the shapes. Stapled the paper onto a thick cardboard backer.

Sequencing - 4 card to tell a story

Sorting coins

Making bed

Matching number to dots on crab.

Matching shapes - baby beluga whale to mama beluga whale.

Math card and counters.

Matching in and out.

Helping to load dryer.

DS also loves to key in the commands on the dryer keypad to run it.

If weather permits, he loves chalk drawing on the driveway. That one picture with stripes on it is his version of a worm. The other pic with a pointed tip is a rocket. That's what he told me!

DS in action.

Continent work. He outlined the shapes of the continents individually on a individual pieces of paper. I wrote the name of the continent for him. He colored it in according to the color on the corresponding puzzle piece and when all seven continents were done, we stapled them together and turned it into a continent book. He just loves it when his work turns into a book.

Besides all these, I try to incorporate some form of learning in all that we do the rest of the day. He usually helps me in the kitchen - cracking eggs, cutting banana, cutting sandwich into smaller pieces, washing and cooking rice, filling pot with water, etc. Besides all the learning that is gleaned, these opportunities provide so much time for bonding and enjoying doing things together. We are never bored! :-)
